Blank Stare


One of the lions (leeuwen) that guard the De Paauw, a former royal mansion that now houses some Wassenaar city offices.

This lion reminds me a little bit of the two that guard the entrance to the Art Institute in Chicago. These animals make such noble subjects, don't they?

That looks like a very old lioness. I like it though because they are such regal animals and this statue is one of the few I have seen that does their images any justice. Nice photo of it.

I like the way the lion has been stylized by the sculptor. Check out the way the mane encircles the lion's ear. Makes him look like a prize fighter with a cauliflower ear. Cool kitty.
